Dynapower is proud to announce that its DPS-500 DC-to-DC converter for solar plus storage has been certified for IEC 62109 from TÜV Rheinland. It is the first DC to DC converter designed for utility-scale solar plus storage applications to receive this important safety designation.
“Dynapower designs and builds the safest, highest performing energy storage inverters and DC to DC converters available today. This is further validation of the quality and safety of our energy storage solutions,” said Tim Varhue, Energy Storage Product Manager.
In addition to being certified to IEC 62109, Dynapower’s DPS-500 is also certified to UL 1741 and UL 62109. The DPS-500 has also been tested by TÜV Rheinland and passed compliance for emission standards — EN 61000-6-4, CISPR 11— and immunity standards — EN 61000-6-2, IEEE C37.90.2, EN 6100-4-2, EN 61000-4-3, EN 61000-4-4, EN 61000-4-5, EN 61000-4-6, EN 61000-4-8, EN 61000-4-11.
TÜV Rheinland developed the comprehensive test and certification program to help manufacturers verify their products compliance with international standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC).
The IEC certification increases protection for installers and system operators from potential risks from non-compliant design and helps ensure the safety of solar plus storage installations.
“TÜV Rheinland is committed to providing the solar industry with superior service. It starts with building partnerships and trust with our clients, enabling them to successfully bring safe products to market. We were very excited to be the first to provide Dynapower with an IEC 62109 certification for their DPS-500 DC to DC Converter and look forward to an on-going business partnership.”said Zhiwang (Fred) Zhu, Senior Director – PV-Inverter and Energy Storage Systems, TÜV Rheinland.
The IEC developed the standard to provide adequate protection for the operator and surrounding area against electric shock and spread of fire in addition to energy, mechanical, excessive temperature, chemical, sonic pressure, and explosive hazards.
As the market for DC-coupled utility scale solar plus storage grows, the IEC 62109 certification will further differentiate Dynapower in the market.
“With the solar industry turning to DC-coupled storage because of its greater economic performance, it will be important for developers and system operators to utilize power electronics that meet the highest standards to ensure the performance and safety of their installations,” said Varhue.
“Dynapower is proud to be able to supply such products, and looks forward to developing new products in conjunction with TÜV Rheinland that spur the deployment of energy storage worldwide.”
Industry analysts from IHS and Woods McKenzie predict DC-coupled solar plus storage will be the standard system deployed for new large-scale PV installations by 2023.
