Behind The Power:
Joanne Gordon, Logistics Team Leader

Enjoying the challenge of more efficient workflows
Joanne likes to be efficient and get right to the point, both in her words and through her leadership at Dynapower. As the Logistics Team Leader, she finds fulfillment in solving problems, supporting her team, and ensuring that production flows smoothly.
Q: What do you like best about your job?
A: I like the aspect of problem-solving in my job. I lead a team of 10 to 12 people and help solve a lot of problems and issues they have. I enjoy that challenge.
Q: How would you describe the company culture?
A: It’s rewarding and engaging. In my role, I engage with a lot of different departments to make sure the production floor gets everything they need and there’s no work stoppage. It’s also challenging at times. We do a lot of recording of POC (percent completion on jobs), so we have to stay organized, especially with a lot of other products coming in.
Q: In what ways do you influence the quality of the products here at Dynapower?
A: I am always striving for 100% accuracy when we are receiving jobs and delivering product out on the floor. And also, I make sure that whenever there’s a request that comes in to us, we’re right on it and we don’t have anybody waiting for product. Our main goal is to make sure there’s no work stoppage on the equipment.
Q: What is something you do in your job that is innovative?
A: Most recently, we’ve been utilizing new technology that’s really time-saving. Our new scan guns and bar code system enable us to scan products and make sure we’re picking the right items and we’re putting them away in the right spot. We can get the jobs kitted a lot faster than having to do everything manually. And people are more mobile, too, because they can walk around with a scan gun and not have to go back to their desk often.
Q: What are some ways that you continue learning in your field?
A: I recently attended a training about how to “train the trainee” in order to become better at onboarding people. I’ve been taking classes to get better at how to train people so they can understand the job better. If you’re good at your job, you can explain it well to someone. I’m trying to enhance my leadership skills to strive for a better team with a better understanding of what we do in our department.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I like to golf and play pickleball all summer long. I also like to kayak on Lake Champlain, up in North Hero where I have a camp. In the winter, I play pickleball indoors.
