Q: What do you like best about your job?
A: What I like best is training and coaching my team to work cohesively together while also collaborating across departments to improve processes. I enjoy building relationships throughout the organization to make everything work better as a whole.
Q: How would you describe the company culture in three words?
A: Dedication to Craft: From the moment I walked in, I could see there was a dedication to the craft that everybody undertakes here. Everybody understands what we are meant to do.
Q: In what ways do you influence the quality of the products here at Dynapower?
A: I focus on empowering team members to drive necessary change and build a culture where people feel confident bringing issues forward and participating in solutions. I’ve prioritized trust, making sure team members feel heard, and improving communication between departments. This approach transforms how we work—we’re collaboratively placing stepping stones and seeing further ahead. The result is greater efficiency and a team that thinks beyond immediate objectives to understand downstream impacts.
Q: What is something you do in your job that is innovative?
A: One of the initiatives I’ve started here is among technicians with engineering degrees who don’t have enough experience to work in design. I’ve been helping to close those gaps in their skill set to the point where now the engineering team has started to ask for their assistance. I see this as kind of a continuum for some people. For some technicians, the continuum means that they’re going to be one of the best test technicians in the industry. For some people, it means that they’re going to continue to learn and turn it into a design role for the company.
Q: What are some ways that you continue learning in your field?
A: I learn through both my work and personal interests. My work allows me to take a deeper dive into electrical principles I was previously trained in. This focused experience with magnetics and electromotive force translates to my personal interest in electric guitars, where I apply these concepts to build better pickups and amplifiers. I’ve also developed a personal reflection practice called “nightly thoughts on daily basics,” where I process Dynapower’s work principles like blameless problem solving and apply them across my life. This helps me grow not just professionally but also as a parent, teaching me patience and the value of learning through experimentation.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I spend my time trying to learn how to better use my tools. That’s everything from shooting film in a camera to carving wood to building electronics, and then a lot of time writing and composing for projects.
