Multiple-output-in-one-enclosure power supplies are a single enclosure with multiple independently controllable outputs. Both air and water-cooled, SCR and Switchmode Power Supplies can be packaged so that multiple outputs, ranging from two to twelve can be designed into one common enclosure. SCR and Switchmode Technologies can be blended together into a single enclosure to suit the application of the power supplies as well.Â
ÂThere are several advantages when considering a multiple output packaging approach to specifying power supplies. These include:
Multiple-output-in-one enclosure packages reduce the number of AC utility runs and associated integral or wall-mounted AC disconnects that are required for the equipment. The power supplies can accept a 3 phase input of 220, 380, 460, or 575 VAC.Â
Water-cooled units are equipped for one set of plumbing connections with the water distribution to each of the individual outputs via an internal, copper manifold.
This configuration drastically reduces floor space and clearance requirements around the cabinet. The compact design of the power supply can be planned to suit a space restriction in the area where the units are to be installed.
In some cases, the cost of a single, multiple-output-in-one unit can be less than that of standalone power supplies due to one shared enclosure and transformer required for all of the individually controllable power supplies. The cost of freight can also be less as fewer boxes are to be shipped. Lead times can also be reduced as fewer cabinets are to be manufactured.  Â
Each individual output within the multiple output-in-one enclosure power supply would include a set of manual controls. Remote PLC interface for control and monitoring of voltage and current is included as part of the standard package for Switchmode Power Supplies and an option for SCR units. The controls can be identical for each of the outputs that are housed within the common enclosure or optional timer, ramp rate adjustment, ampere hour meters, or Digital Touchpad Interface with custom profile creation and storage may be incorporated. The standard controls interface is a separate remote control console to be mounted away from the unit or integral to the main power supply enclosure.
For instance, on a plating line that requires three separate tanks with ripple correction required on one of them, the ideal solution may be to package a two-in-one SCR power supply for two of the applications with a Switchmode Power supply that inherently contains low ripple for the tank with a specific output ripple requirement. Other options may also be to add an internal LC filter to limit the ripple content to the desired specification for the plating tank and design the unit as a three-in-one SCR power supply.
Conventional rack systems can be supplied for Air-cooled Switchmode Power Supplies. Air and Water-cooled Switchmode units may also be combined into a common cabinet with water only being distributed to units that require it. Step up or down transformers are available for rack systems that are built to house multiple different switchmode product lines.
