Transformer – All of Dynapower Corporation’s transformers are computer‑designed to provide optimum performance. The transformer is manufactured in the following manner:

Winding Material - Splice-free, electrolytically pure copper.

Core Material - Low loss, high quality, grain oriented silicon steel provides good flux transfer and low eddy current losses.

Insulation Material - 220°C Class insulation incorporating glass, fiberglass, and NOMEX insulation.

Process - The coils are vacuum impregnated by varnish and then baked to cure. Varnishing provides additional electro-mechanical strength and protection from the operating environment. All coils are wound for stress distribution under fault conditions to provide superior mechanical strength.  Direct water cooled transformers are supplied with a secondary full copper coolant system.  This coolant system is comprised of heavy walled rectangular copper tubing in intimate contact with the secondary copper windings.

Cooling – Dynapower’s power supplies are designed for optimum low loss/efficient operation and employ specially designed cooling systems to remove the heat generated during operation.  Dynapower has vast experience in designing and manufacturing numerous types of cooling systems, ranging from forced-air cooled and direct water-cooled units, to power supplies which employ water-to-water (link pictures and text) closed-loop heat exchangers or air-to-water closed loop heat exchanger systems.  Strict attention is given to the design and construction of the cooling systems to ensure that the maximum amount of heat is removed from each component.

Air-Cooled - Air-cooled units use totally enclosed ball bearing motors to drive shrouded fan blades, delivering a maximum volume of air over the heat sinks and transformer.  An internal sub-panel separates electrical control components such as contactors, relays and electronics from the air stream.

Direct Water-Cooled - Dynapower Corporation set an industry standard of water-cooling the semiconductors and transformer windings over thirty years ago.  Dynapower uses silver plated deep hole drilled copper heat sinks to cool the semiconductors.  Direct water-cooling is the most efficient means of removing heat from the power supply.

Water-to-Water Heat Exchangers - Water–to-water heat exchangers are designed to have internal coolant-to-external water closed loop heat exchanger cooling system.  This system employs a thermostatically controlled proportioning valve to regulate the flow of the water into the unit and hence the temperature of the internal coolant.  This valve maintains balanced non-cyclical cooling, hence maintaining the junction temperature of the semiconductors at a more constant level and thus increasing their expected life spans.  The Water-to-Water heat exchanger systems offer additional benefits including greatly reducing the need of clean low conductivity coolant.  This is due to the fact that stray voltages are not present outside of the cabinet where the heat is transferred from the low conductivity clean internal coolant to the standard cooling tower water present on the external loop.  In addition, a customer can modify the total volume of cooling water required in the cooling system by modifying the delta T of the incoming to the outgoing external water flow.  The major components of this integrally mounted cooling system are a shell and tube heat exchanger with copper tubes, admiralty brass, removable end bells, pump and motor assembly, reservoir and the thermostatically controlled proportioning valve mentioned above.

Air-to-Water Heat Exchangers - Air–to-water heat exchangers are designed with an internal closed loop water-cooling system, to and external fan cooling system.  The basic concept of the system is that the internal closed loop water-cooling system dissipates the heat internal to the power supply from the transformer and the semiconductors into the water.  The water is then circulated throughout the unit and eventually outside of the enclosure where it passes by a fan.  The heat from the water is then dissipated to the ambient via this large fan and the cool water is then re-circulated throughout the enclosure and the process begins again.  The water level of the internal closed loop water-cooling system is maintained via a reservoir tank, which is mounted onto the side of the enclosure.  Due to the fact that the water-cooling system is closed loop, additional water will rarely need to be added to the reservoir tank.

Semiconductors – Dynapower selects its semi-conductors based upon an approximate 250% safety factor to provide the ultimate in reliability.  This design criterion limits the junction temperature of the semiconductors to typically less than 80°C. Other rectifier manufacturers do not employ this level of performance margin in semiconductor selection resulting in a lower quality and less reliable power supply.

Cabinet – Dynapower Corporation’s Cabinets are a heavy-duty industrial drip‑tight NEMA 2 design with formed structural members attached to a welded angle iron base frame.  All panels are manufactured using 14-gauge steel and sealed with a neoprene gasket.  The enclosure is finished inside and outside by degreasing and acid resistant enamel paint.  Standard paint will be dark blue per Dynapower Corporation’s standard.

Ripple – Standard 6 Pulse DC Rectifiers will contain less than 5% RMS AC Ripple when operated at rated voltage and current.  Ripple filters are available to reduce ripple to virtually any level over any operating range.
